A Guide to HSN Codes for Thermoset NEMA Grades: XX, CE, G10, G11, G3, G9, GPO3, and PK100

A Guide to HSN Codes for Thermoset NEMA Grades: XX, CE, G10, G11, G3, G9, GPO3, and PK100

In the global trade of thermoset materials, HSN (Harmonized System Nomenclature) codes play a crucial role. These codes help standardize and classify goods for customs and taxation purposes, facilitating smooth international trade. In this blog, we will explore the HSN code numbers for various NEMA grades—XX, CE, G10, G11, G3, G9, GPO3 and PK100—and understand what these codes signify.

What are HSN Codes?

HSN codes are a globally accepted system for classifying goods, developed by the World Customs Organization (WCO). Each HSN code is a unique number that identifies a specific type of product. This system aids in uniformity and accuracy in the identification of goods across different countries.

The HSN code is typically a six-digit number, but it can be extended to eight or ten digits to accommodate additional classifications as per national requirements. The first two digits represent the chapter, the next two digits represent the heading, and the last two digits represent the subheading.

HSN Codes for Thermoset Grades

Thermoset materials, due to their unique properties and applications, fall under specific HSN codes. Below, we list the HSN codes for some common thermoset grades and provide a brief description of each material. Something to note, at times the HSN codes will describe an application. For instance, many of our Lamitex NEMA grade materials could fall under the code 8546.90.00. This is a generic code that is used for electrical insulators of any material.

Lamitex Paper-Based Phenolic Grade XX

  • HSN Code: 3921.90.11 (Sheet Material: Other…including phenolics)some text
    • Description: Phenolic Grade XX is a type of paper-based phenolic laminate. It offers good electrical insulation properties and is commonly used in electrical applications such faustas switchgear, transformers, and insulation barriers.

Lamitex Cotton-Based Phenolic Grade CE

  • HSN Code: 3921.90.21 (Sheet Material: Other…including phenolics) some text
    • Description: Phenolic Grade CE is a canvas-based phenolic laminate. It has excellent mechanical strength and is used in applications where high impact resistance and durability are required, such as in mechanical components and electrical insulation.

Lamitex Glass-Based Epoxy Grade G10

  • HSN Code: 3920.62.90 (Sheet Material: non-cellular…)some text
    • Description: G10 is a glass cloth-reinforced epoxy laminate known for its high mechanical strength and excellent electrical insulating properties. It is widely used in printed circuit boards (PCBs), structural components, and as electrical or thermal insulation in various industrial applications.

Lamitex Glass-Based Epoxy Grade G11

  • HSN Code: 3920.62.90 (Sheet Material: non-cellular…)some text
    • Description: G11 is similar to G10 but offers better thermal stability. It is a glass cloth-reinforced epoxy laminate used in high-temperature applications where superior mechanical and electrical properties are essential, such as in aerospace and industrial machinery.

5. Lamitex Glass-Based Phenolic Grade G3

·       HSN Code: 3920.79.90 (sheet material: non-cellular…of other polyesters)

o   Description: G3 is a glass cloth-reinforced phenolic laminate. It is known for its good mechanical strength and electrical insulating properties.

Lamitex Glass-Based Melamine Grade G9

  • HSN Code: 3920.63.90 (sheet material: non-cellular…of amino resins…melamine)some text
    • Description: G9 is a glass cloth-reinforced melamine laminate. It provides good mechanical strength and excellent arc resistance, making it suitable for high-voltage electrical applications and components that require superior dielectric properties.

Lamitex Glass-Based Polyester Grade GPO3

  • HSN Code: 3920.69.90 (sheet material: non-cellular…of other plastics…polyester)some text
    • Description: GPO3 is a glass cloth-reinforced polyester laminate known for its good mechanical properties and electrical insulation capabilities. It is used in various electrical and structural applications where a combination of strength and electrical performance is required.

Lamitex Kevlar®-Based Phenolic Grade PK100

  • HSN Code: 3921.90.90 (sheet material…Other)some text
    • Description: PK100 is a Para-Aramid reinforced phenolic laminate known for its excellent wear properties in bearing and rotary vane applications. Our high temperature phenolic resin matrix allows our rotary vanes to operate at higher temperatures than our competitors.

Breakdown of HSN Codes:

  • Chapter 39: Covers plastics and articles thereof.
  • Heading 20-90: Relates to plates, sheets, film, foil, and strip, of plastics.
  • Subheading 20-99: Specifies the type of plastic and the reinforcement material used.

Understanding the HSN codes for thermoset grades such as NEMA XX, CE, G10, G11, G3, G9, and PK100 is essential for accurate classification and smooth international trade. These codes help standardize the identification of materials, ensuring compliance with customs regulations and facilitating efficient global commerce.
